Abstract

Abstract

          This thesis entitled “The Analytical Study of Vinaya about Woman in Bhikkhupãtimokkha”. The main purposes of thesis are 1) to study the concept of the woman in Buddhism 2) to study the offense about woman in Bhikkhupãtimokkha and 3) to analyze the best of monk’s practices to woman in present time.    

The result revealed that woman, on word ‘Satree’, means who die by the husband. Before Buddhist era, the woman without husband is disgusting in society. The woman status is not equal to man. For example, woman cannot study about religion scripture and she is unclean to the ceremony. In Buddha’s time, woman come to Buddhism, she has the opportunity to learn and practices follow the Buddha teaching. Woman can join in Buddhist activity, though become the Bikkhuni and can reach the higher goal in Buddhism as is Nippana. Woman is praised on many important status, as the mother, as the wife, as the lay woman and etc.     

Offense about woman in Bhikkhupãtimokkha revealed that there are three offenses are; 1) Parasika: on the sexual intercourse, 2) Sangkadisesa: on female touching, on female philandering and on speaking to have sex to female 3) Pachiti: on sleeping with female, on teaching over 6 words to female, on sitting with female in secret place and traveling with female.

The best of monk’s practices to woman is strictly keeping the discipline. Focusing on six Indriya-s: eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body and mind. Give the carefully speech with woman. Thinking to all of woman is the relative. Finally, determining the body is non-beauty, Asuphakammathana, for ridding the sensuality.
